Into the Uncanny Valley is a dark science fiction tale that incorporates live actors and painstakingly-manipulated life-sized puppets. It tells the story of one woman’s ill-fated attempt to implant her comatose sister’s consciousness into a robotic human replica. The android indeed comes to life, but as a robotic infant who has a lifetime of memories, but exhibits neither human impulses nor human experience. For all of her uncanny similarities to the vegetative sister, the robot falls woefully short of replacing her human template. Meanwhile, Alanna is faced with the responsibility of having created a living creature that only serves as an unsettling reminder, rather than a comfort, for that which was lost.
