3 weeks. $250. Includes basic materials.
The Mother of All Puppet Construction Classes. What is the single most essential skill to make good puppets? Prototypes! In this class, we’ll teach you how to rapidly build functional, evocative puppets in a number of styles using humble materials such fabric, cardboard, wood, found objects, and paint. Playing with prototypes and material exploration, you will create objects that can be used in rehearsal, as proof-of-concept for more refined puppets – or even gussied up for performance!
Space is limited. Email firstname.lastname@example.org with your name and phone number to register or for more information.
Classes take place at the Rough House studio

Sunday, August 20. 2-5pm
At Hairpin Arts Center
2810 N Milwaukee Ave, Chicago, IL 60618
PIPs is an informal gathering for testing out new puppet and object-based performances. Bring whatever you’re working on and get encouragement and feedback from other Chicago puppet-folks.
Are you new to puppetry and want a low stakes way to test the waters? Are you an old hand with a new project? Are you a dancer, comics artist, performance poet, teacher, lifeguard, engineer just curious about what puppetry looks like today?
Everyone is welcome!
Bring a project, no matter how rough, or just come for the conversation.
There will be snacks and supportive people! We’re still scheduling the next one. Email email@example.com for info about PIPs
Puppetry & Object Theater: Play Building
Play Building is a class designed for individuals who are interested in crafting their own short works of puppet theater. The session will cover foundational tenets of puppet construction, and will walk participants through a process of designing, building, and staging a polished short work of puppet theater.
Rough House seeks to empower Chicago artists and puppetry enthusiasts with the skills and experience needed to create their own work. At the completion of this six week session, each participant should walk away not only with a piece to perform at cabarets, variety shows, and festivals, but with the skills to independently generate puppet art.
