Soft Sculpture Puppets taught by Davey K
Saturday, Oct 28, 10:30am – 4:30pm
1924 N Halsted, Chicago, IL
Cost: $75. Includes materials.

In this day-long workshop, visual artist and puppeteer Davey K. will shepherd you through the building process he uses to make fantastical and functional soft sculpture puppets. Using flexible fabric and simple sewing, Davey will show you the ropes of how to build humanoid puppet forms by arranging and connecting pillowy shapes to each other. When the workshop is done, you’ll walk home with a brand new puppet of your own creation!

Davey Krofta is a visual artist from Cleveland, Ohio, where he obtained a degree in fiber and material studies. His work focuses on telling stories and entertaining people while exploring material processes and mediums. In this pursuit he has made everything from puppets to comic books, always with a focus on humor, strangeness, and color.

1:00-5pm at the Rough House Studio
3 weeks. $250. Includes basic materials.

The Mother of All Puppet Construction Classes. What is the single most essential skill to make good puppets? Prototypes! In this class, we’ll teach you how to rapidly build functional, evocative puppets in a number of styles using humble materials such fabric, cardboard, wood, found objects, and paint. Playing with prototypes and material exploration, you will create objects that can be used in rehearsal, as proof-of-concept for more refined puppets – or even gussied up for performance!
